unWRECKed - a short film
unWRECKed is a short film that explores the journey of healing from trauma, building resilience, and going through transformation and reinvention during times of uncertainty and adversity.
Blending underwater imagery with personal narrative, the film draws a parallel between underwater wrecks evolving into vibrant coral reefs to illustrate how moments of upheaval can create space for reinvention. When old structures fall away, we are given the rare chance to rediscover who we are and shape something new.
Rooted in the filmmaker's personal journey - from a traumatic corporate experience to finding peace in freediving and nature - it is an artistic reflection on sitting with uncertainty, trusting the process of healing, and letting go of the need for immediate answers. It reflects on the elements that shape us during internal storms: exploration, community, introspection, and presence.
Through the lens of water and movement, unWRECKed invites the audience to view uncertainty and adversity as an opportunity for reinvention and the creation of beauty.
This is not a story of perfection. It’s a meditation on change, our ability to evolve, and the beauty that can emerge from destruction.
What if -
What shatters is not lost.
What sinks can reemerge anew.
What breaks the past can shape a better future.
It’s an invitation to slow down, stay present, reinvent, and create life from ruins.
DIRECTOR’S NOTE:
Creating unWRECKed was both a personal reckoning and a quiet act of rebellion - against perfection, productivity, and the pressure to always have answers. This film was born from a deeply transitional moment in my life, after walking away from the corporate world and its familiar markers of success. I found myself in a space of uncertainty - uncomfortable, but also strangely full of potential.
Freediving became a lifeline. It reconnected me with the present, with my mind and my body, with nature, and with a sense of community that view achievements in its own ways. Underwater, I stopped breathing to learn how to breathe better.
In the ocean, wrecks - once symbols of destruction - were slowly being transformed into vibrant ecosystems. That imagery stayed with me. unWRECKed is my first film, created without a professional crew, without planned shoots and professional equipments or technical assistance, but with a strong sense of purpose. It’s not just about freediving, a sport that I feel deeply connected to. It’s a meditation on change, on letting go, and on trusting that something meaningful can emerge from the unknown.
I hope it resonates with anyone navigating your own period of transformation - whether through loss, transition, or simply the quiet process of rediscovering who you are.
I hope unWRECKed speaks to more than just the freediving community - and that anyone, regardless of their connection to the ocean, can find a part they connect with in it. At its heart, it’s a story about being human: navigating change, holding uncertainty, and beginning again.
If it resonates, please leave a comment - I’d love to hear what it stirred in you.
